The 2026 "NIDA. Meeting Photography" Residency Finalist Simon Chang to Engage with Local Community

In May 2026, for the fifth time, an artist will be invited to participate in an artist residency in Nida. This residency program is part of the international photography symposium “NIDA. Meeting Photography.” The program is implemented in collaboration with the Vilnius Academy of Arts' Nida Art Colony. The residency aims to actualize photography both as a medium and as a means of expression. The program is oriented towards artists who promote critical thinking in their work, question established cultural field practices, and are sensitive to social and political changes or current issues.

Arturas Valiauga Awarded at Higashikawa International Photo Festival

Lithuanian photographer Arturas Valiauga has been named the recipient of the 2025 Overseas Photographer Award at the prestigious Higashikawa International Photo Festival in Japan. The award, presented annually by the town of Higashikawa — often called the “Town of Photography” — honors outstanding contributions to the art of photography by international artists.

The long-standing tradition of the photography symposium "NIDA. Meeting Photography" begins its fourth year not with the usual September gathering, but with a spring photography residency. In 2022, the residency, established together with UAB "Fotosintezė" and the VAA Nida Art Colony, has already featured Taiwanese artist Chia-Yun Wu, Polish artist Michal Siarek, and Lithuanian Ieva Maslinskaitė, and since May of this year, German photographer Corina Gertz has been a guest at the Curonian Spit.

International Photography Project "Lithuania. 24 Hours"

On May 1, 2004, Lithuania became a member of the European Union. This historic event inspired the international photography project Lithuania. 24 Hours, which brought together 63 photographers from Lithuania and abroad. In anticipation of this milestone, at the initiative of the news agency INNA, several dozen renowned international photography masters arrived in Lithuania. Together with Lithuanian photographic artists and several filming crews, they spent a full 24 hours capturing moments of daily life across the country, minute by minute, on the eve of Lithuania’s accession. The result is an authentic time document that reflects the flow of everyday life.

The competition aims to reveal what is happening not only in our homes but also worldwide, to show the positive or negative human impact on nature, to strengthen responsibility for the fate of ourselves and the Earth and to affect the audience through photographic images that make them think – where are we going and where will we go, what are we doing to preserve nature. Participants must submit their photographs and completed participant’s questionnaires by May 5, 2025.

Vytenis Jankūnas presents two large video projections, sharing images of peoples’ life world in New York City, which he has been religiously capturing on his camera for the past few years. In this particular exhibition, Vytenis showcases portraits set in the streets of New York, the city in which he has spent half of his life, where he fell in love with the people, the way they look, the way they dress and the way they talk. He has succeeded in documenting and magnifying them through his lens.

Until 6th October 2024, young artists from Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia are invited to submit their work for the Riga Photography Biennial – NEXT 2025 Award ‘Seeking the Latest in Photography!’. The winner of the award will be chosen by an international jury and will have an opportunity to hold a solo exhibition at the ISSP Gallery within the framework of the Riga Photography Biennial – NEXT 2025 (RPB – NEXT 2025) program held in spring, 2025, where the awarding of other laureates will also take place.

The exhibition “Monuments and Everlasting Flowers” ​​opens on September 14th at 11:00 a.m. at the Saint-Jean Chapel in Mulhouse, France. The exhibition’s authors, Andreij Polukord and Léa Habourdin, are participating. The project is curated by Sonia Voss. The exhibition will run until October 13th. Additional opening events will take place on September 21 at 3:00 p.m. and September 22 at 5:00 p.m.
