The VDA FAMM Department invites you to a guest open lecture by Prof. Dr. Peeter Linnap on Tuesday, 29 September 2026, at 11:00 in Room 424, Titanikas. We are launching a series of public lectures as 2026 marks 200 years since the creation of the first photograph and 30 years since the establishment of the BA programme in Photography and Media Art at VDA.
“The Šlapeliai – Colonists of Patagonia”. Exhibition at the Šlapelis Museum

On September 30, 2026, at 6 PM, the exhibition “The Šlapeliai – Colonists of Patagonia” will open at the Marija and Jurgis Šlapelis House-Museum. It is a joint photographic research project by photographer Mykolas Juodelė and graphic designer Sandra Rivero, exploring the history of the Šlapelis family in Patagonia. The exhibition will be on view until November 28.
Announcing the 2027 Nida Photography Residency Artist

In May 2027, for the sixth time, an artist will be invited to participate in the Nida Photography Residency. The residency programme is part of the international photography symposium NIDA. Meeting Photography and is organised in collaboration with the Vilnius Academy of Arts Nida Art Colony. The aim of the residency is to explore and expand the possibilities of photography both as a medium and as a means of artistic expression. The programme is aimed at artists whose practices promote critical thinking, question established practices within the cultural field, and engage with current social and political changes and issues.

After extensive deliberations, discussions, and evaluations, the Lithuanian Photographers Association announces the finalists of the 2026 photography competition RESTART: Maryna Brodovska (Ukraine), Bogdan Gulyay (Ukraine), Christoph Honig (Germany), L A D (Italy/Germany), Carlo Rusca (Switzerland), Aindreas Scholz (Ireland/UK), Ugnė Šlaičiūnaitė (Lithuania), Javier Talavera (Spain), Marie Wengler (Denmark), Masha Wysocka (Spain/Belgium). We congratulate the selected artists and look forward to meeting you at the opening of the exhibition at Prospektas Gallery (Vilnius, Lithuania) on July 29, 2026. The exhibition catalogue will also be presented during the opening.

Earning popularity for the existential questions it raised, the song became the hymn among those around the world fighting for civil rights, becoming as memorable as Martin Luther King Junior's "I have a dream" speech to the American nation, or the rallying cry from our 1972 anti-Soviet protests in memory of Romas Kalanta - "Laisvę Lietuvai!" [Freedom for Lithuania].

Bicentennial of Photography – 200 Years of Photography

In collaboration with the Nordic Photography Network, the Lithuanian Photographers Association is launching the Bicentennial of Photography campaign, celebrating the 200th anniversary of photography in 2026. The anniversary will be marked throughout the year in cooperation with a wide network of national and international partners. The history of photography dates back to the late 18th century, when scientists sought to capture the image produced by the camera obscura. A major breakthrough came in 1826, when French inventor Nicéphore Niépce succeeded in producing the first permanent photograph.

The open calls for Helsinki Analog Festival 2026 are now open. The festival welcomes applications from artists working with analog photography, moving image, and book arts. It celebrates analog and handmade art and will take place in Helsinki in April 2026.

The festival brings the diverse European talent to the cityscape of Tokyo, fosters new professional and creative opportunities for European and Japanese artists. Exhibitions are held in public spaces of Tokyo, exploring new forms of display. The exhibitions are followed by networking events, panel talks, Photojournalism Awards, art auction for Ukraine, photowalks and portfolio reviews.
