“Prospektas gallery window” is a project aimed at bringing the visual heritage preserved in the archive of the Lithuanian Photographers’ Association closer to passersby and making it accessible to a wider audience. Public projections in the gallery window allow photography to be experienced by those who do not عادة visit exhibition spaces, thus engaging passive observers of visual culture in more active encounters.
The project presents archival images of significant educational and historical value, highlighting key moments in Lithuania’s history such as the Sąjūdis movement, the Baltic Way, and the events of January 13, as captured by prominent Lithuanian photographers. However, the project is not limited to documenting historical events—it also opens up a broader view of the authors’ works preserved in the archive, showcasing individual artistic practices, diverse photographic expressions, and personal visual narratives.
By broadcasting photographic heritage “directly into the street,” the project makes it easily accessible to both art professionals and the general public. This initiative contributes to the ongoing digitization of the archive, which has been systematically carried out since 2019, and promotes the democratization of photographic heritage, creating opportunities for audiences of different ages and backgrounds to engage with the history of Lithuanian photography and its significance in cultural development.
The activities of the Lithuanian Photographers Association are funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture.
The project is partially funded by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania and the Vilnius City Municipality.
