The magazine “FOTOGRAFIJA” is a twice a year publication of information and art criticism issued by the Lithuanian Photographers Association. It publishes art-historical and essayistic articles, materials on contemporary Lithuanian photography and its history, as well as reviews of exhibitions and overviews of events in the activities of the Lithuanian Photographers Association. The journal’s sections create conditions for the development of theoretical and analytical thought, summarizing the evolution of Lithuanian and international contemporary photography, its relationship with other art forms, and research into the history of this field.
In recent years, one issue has often been dedicated to a selected theme (such as photography and cinema, photography and sound, photography of conflict, etc.), while the second issue presents critical articles on the events of the year. In addition to articles, the journal also publishes photographic portfolios by two or more authors, accompanied by interviews.
The readership of the journal is highly dynamic, and due to its changing themes, it has become an important source of information not only for professional photographers, exhibition curators, and museum professionals, but also for all those interested in culture and theoretical art discourse.
The journal has been published since 1999 in both Lithuanian and English.
Editors since 1999 have included: Stanislovas Žvirgždas, Skirmantas Valiulis, Povilas Sigitas Krivickas, Palmira Barkuvienė, Ieva Mazuraitė-Novickienė, Vytautas Michelkevičius, Remigijus Treigys, Margarita Matulytė, Julija Fomina, Valentinas Klimašauskas, Darius Vaičekauskas, Kristina Kučinskaitė, Eglė Deltuvaitė, Gintaras Česonis, Tomas Pabedinskas, Jonas Staselis, Gytis Skudžinskas, Gintarė Krasuckaitė, Ugnė Marija Makauskaitė, Paulius Petraitis, Vilma Samulionytė, Sonia Voss, Geistė Marija Kinčinaitytė, and others.
