About the physical discomfort of the body in performative photography
How to visualize what is uncomfortable in your emotional life and the tension it creates in your body is what you will explore in Daphne van de Velde's workshop. How do you feel that discomfort physically and what tactics do you use yourself to stay out of harm's way when you have to perform in vulnerable (social)territory. As a situation, we take the moment of presenting the work you made at the end of the workshop. What goes on in the body when you think about showing your vulnerable work later and how do you convey that.
We will of course provide safety to explore this vulnerable theme together in a small group.
Daphne van de Velde is a multimedia artist who transcends the limitations of the photographic medium. Making the body physically palpable, the discomfort in the emotional life of the body's border with the outside world and the other can be described as the visual language of her work.
It is vulnerable and poetic work that visualize the vulnerable aspects of emotions and intimacy. It is through these elements that two days of work with this Dutch artist will prompt students to explore how to make sure the viewer can also feel and recognise that physical discomfort in your image.
The guidance towards inspiration for an image, the development and mastery of an image and the careful preparation of an exhibition are all aspects that will be covered during the workshop. Part of the workshop will also be devoted to a presentation of her work and recounting its creation. The group will provide a lively exchange with the teacher.
