Art residency in Nida
Part of the International Photography Symposium NIDA. Meeting photography
Open call for lens-based artist. Deadline is March 5th, 2023.
Lithuanian Photographers Association in collaboration with Nida Art Colony invite lens-based artists and photographers to apply for an artist residency program in Nida. This residency is also a part of the international photography symposium NIDA. Meeting photography. The aim of it is to reflect on the site-specific ecosystems and the changing boundaries of photography, to actualize photography both as a medium and as a means of expression. The program seeks to attract artists with critical mindset towards using their production tools, questioning the cultural discourse of their practice as well as having strong socio-political mindset. The residency participant is expected to create site specific work, but also, he/she will be able to continue their work in progress if it is somehow can be connected with the place. Photography can be used in a very broad sense from its usual use to a material as a matter of creation.
The authors freely choose the topic, work technique and subject after discussing technical issues with residency providers. Submissions must be photographic or lens-based but can include incorporations of other art forms with the photographic medium (i.e. performance, painting, sculpture etc).
The results of the residency will be presented at the International Photography Symposium NIDA. Meeting Photography in the main program live or remotely. Works created during the residency will be published in the form of a printed publication.
The duration of the residency is one month – May 1 – 31
The selected author will be paid a one-time grant of EUR 600, the travel cost will be covered (up to EUR 300) as will be the housing costs. In addition, technical measures, printing of works, digitization, etc. up to EUR 300 subject to agreement.
Place of residence and work equipment – the resident will be accommodated at Nida Art Colony. According to the needs and agreement, the resident will have access to local studios, workshops, library, and other technical facilities.
Additionally, there will be selected a shortlist of 20 artists, whose work will be screened as a slide show during projection night at the international photography symposium NIDA. Meeting Photography.
When applying for residency via Picter platform, the author should provide:
- A description of the project and a motivation: up to 800 characters with spaces.
- Short biography: up to 1000 characters with spaces.
- Portfolio and exposition documentations (a maximum of 3 projects)
- Information needs to be submitted via Picter (In Lithuanian or English). Applications provided in any other form will not be considered.
The jury consists of Agnė Narušytė, Audronė Tylaitė, Gytis Skudžinskas, Vilma Samulionytė, Valentinas Klimasauskas, Egija Inzule.
The evaluation criteria include the importance and relevance of the proposed topic, the applicant's previous experience and the applicant's interest/ability to actualize by combining local specifics, an expanded field of photography and his/her creative activity.
The deadline for submitting applications is March 5th, 2023. The results will be announced by March 17th, 2023, on www.photography.lt
The selected candidate and 20 projection participants will receive an e-mail notification. Notifications will not be sent to the candidates that were not selected.
