Representation of Fringes in Lithuanian Photography
Representation is very important for groups who exist on the fringes of socium: it often influences the way in which the rest of society evaluates and perceives those groups. For the most part, our attitudes are shaped by the media or individual encounters and the resulting experiences. However, the point of view can also have influence of the arts. The following question arises: in which ways have fringed people been represented in Lithuania‘s photography? What kind of changes over time can we observe in those images? Can it be that the understanding of the concept itself has been changing?
Paulina Blažytė (b. 1995) graduated in Art Studies at the Vilnius Academy of Arts in 2018. Her research area is photography. Blažytė‘s texts have been mostly published in cultural periodicals such as "7 meno dienos", " Fotografija", and "Krantai ".
