Retrospective Presentation of Works on the Basis of a New Project "The Ones Who Look At The Horizon"
The photography art project “The Ones Who Look at the Horizon” develops by using the archives accumulated between 1990 and 2000. The project runs in cooperation with Alfredas Simonavičius by taking pictures of models for beauty contests ("Miss Lithuania", "Miss Exotica", "Miss Photo Baltic"), music performers, politicians and public figures for the pop press.
The title of the project contains a metaphorical reference to the process of taking photos, where the model is asked to focus on looking into the distance, for the sake of looking better, as well as to the generation of artists of the 1990s, who are still hopefully looking back at the horizon. The visual narrative of the creative presentation will develop by revealing the context of the activities of the photo studio installed in a block of flats in Vilnius (including on the roof), as well as the changing image of social identity at that time, the expression of image aesthetics and ironic self-reflection of one‘s oeuvre.
Arturas Valiauga (b. 1967) s a photographer whose work is dominated by themes of social identity and time.
