Visvaldas Morkevičius. Exercise

A four-day intensive workshop with Visvaldas Morkevičius. It will be based on theory (reading), discussions, developing ideas, creating work, and presentation. A deadline is one of the most motivating aspects, which is why time limits and the intensity of work help to mobilise us. The aim of this workshop is to develop practical abilities, search and make decisions, and act.

Number of participants: 6-8

You should have:

  • Ideas and notes (if you have them)
  • Started but not developed projects (if you have them)
  • Camera acceptable for participant (it is important to see results during the workshop. If you use analog film, please make sure you can see results the next day)
  • Editing tool, if it is needed
  • Pad for notes and sketches (comfortable to use and show to audience)
  • Computer / ipad / phone / prints / digital storage for your work to present.

Visvaldas Morkevičius (b. 1990) is an artist who uses the medium of photography as a research platform for portraits in a very broad sense. In his own terms, he is “collecting realities” while observing the everyday surroundings, choices, and activities of his chosen subjects. Using self-analysis, he searches for new self-portrait opportunities. By using low-fi and hi-fi aesthetics and working with materials from classic analogy photography to modern digital tools, he manipulates the feeling of time and its perception.
Work by Morkevičius was exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in Europe. They are in collections of MO Museum, Lewben Art Foundation and SEB Bank Art Collection.
