A Worldwide History of Women Photographers
Luce Lebart will introduce the book A World History of Women Photographers (Thames and Hudson, September 2022), which she has co-edited with Marie Robert. The book gathers the work of 150 women artists and historians who wrote about 300 women photographers from all over the world, from the 19th to the end of the 20th century. In this talk, Lebart will give details on the context and on the adventure of making this collective book.
Luce Lebart is a French photography historian, exhibition curator and researcher working for the Archive of Modern Conflict as well as independently. Her work focuses on overlooked photographs and photographers. She is the author of books including photobooks such as Mold is Beautiful (2015) and reference books such A World History of Women Photographers, co-edited with Marie Robert, (Textuel 2020 and Thames and Hudson, 2022). Lebart has curated some 30 photography exhibitions, mainly based on photo archives and their contemporary imaginaries, including five presented at the Arles photo-festival and others internationally.
