Open Call for Nida. Meeting Photography projection night “Do you feel like in a hurricane eye?”

2022 06 18

NIDA. Meeting Photography is pleased to launch an open call for lens-based works for a curated evening of projections in Nida, Lithuania.

Please send your work via the platform PICTER by July 17th. Contest submission link is HERE. Submission price: 15 euros.

We invite artists and photographers of any age, nationality, and geographic location to submit lens-based works in a form of photographic series or short videos (up to 10 min) exploring the theme “Do you feel like in a hurricane eye?” How the world changed in time of quarantine and after Russia invasion to Ukraine? It seems everything calmed down or at least we are used to the situation surrounding us. The information flow from east is constant, quarantine restrictions are off and traveling again is easier. But is it really calmed down? Is it really over? Maybe we are in a temporary calm like in the eye of a hurricane. And after some time, the chaos will erupt again? How the present situation in the world will mark future of photographic storytelling and how different will we read pictures in the future?

We are looking for broad and innovative interpretations of the topic, whether it’s speculations on the future of the planet or humanity, a closer look into utopia/dystopia, the future of the photographic image, or technology. Yet it’s not only the content of the submitted work that should reflect the theme but also its execution: we are interested in seeing works that exist between photography and other mediums, disciplines, and sciences.

We welcome analogue and digital experiments, collage works, videos, augmented photography, simulations and anything that may fall into the broad category of lens-based media.

Selected works will be screened during the International Photography Symposium NIDA. Meeting Photography in Lithuania in September. The symposium is now in its 45th year and has grown to attract local and international artists, photographers, lecturers, historians, and critics to a special location on the Curonian Spit by the Baltic Sea.

This is a great opportunity to share your work with an international audience of photographers, artists, curators, critics, and gallery representatives in a unique setting of pine forests and sand dunes.
