reStart ‘22
Group exhibition reStart opens at Prospekto Gallery (Gedimino pr. 43, Vilnius) on Wednesday 27 July, at 5.30 pm.
The biannual project reStart, organised by the Lithuanian Photographers Association, is a collective look at the current state of visual culture. For the past few years, the exhibition has been organised as an international forum for contemporary photography, with artists from all over the world presenting their work. Participants symbolically diagnose both the developments in photography as a medium and a mode of expression, as well as contemporary socio-cultural processes. The issues raised in the individual works range from rethinking personal experience to analysing collective traumas, from conceptual constructions of personal biographies to reflections on the national consciousness.
The Debut competition, from which the reStart project originated, dictates the principles for the selection of participants. In the initial phase, authors submit their work in an open call (this year, 107 submissions from 19 countries were received), and in a later phase, the project takes on curatorial characteristics. The selected artists adapt their ideas specifically for the exhibition.
The works for the reStart exhibition were selected by Aurelija Maknytė, Vilma Samulionytė, Arturas Valiauga, and Gytis Skudžinskas.
Authors: Karim ABED (Canada/North Africa), Swen Bernitz (Germany), Monika Dubinkaitė (Lithuania), Elena Krukonytė (Lithuania), Allan Maxwell (USA), Nicolas Reinhart (Germany), Agnieszka Rodowicz (Poland), Maryna Shtanko (Ukraine/Germany), Soushi Tanaka (Japan), Daphne van de Velde (Netherlands).
