Introducing Eustachy Poklewski-Koziełło (1843–1899), Secretary of the French Photographic Society

Photography was born in France, and throughout the 19th century, photographers around the world followed the trends set by the French. Dr. Dainius Junevičius, a photography historian who has focused on the ties between Lithuania and France in the field of photography, is currently conducting a research project funded by the Research Council of Lithuania entitled “French Traces in 19th-Century Lithuanian Photography.” This project explores the influence of French photography on photographers working in Lithuania, as well as the ways Lithuania was represented in French photographic work.

This lecture will present newly discovered biographical facts about Eustachy Poklewski-Koziełło (1843–1899)), a participant in the 1863 uprising, an émigré, and secretary of the French Photographic Society—and will highlight his role in encouraging Lithuanian photographers to participate in the Society’s activities and exhibitions in France.
