Mai Keldsen

A narrator moves through a series of landscapes where forgotten memories turn out to be waiting. Slowly they return.
Mai S. Keldsen (b. 1991) lives and works in Copenhagen, DK. She holds an MFA from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (2020), a a Minor in art, writing and research (2020) and has participated in the Independent Study Program at MauMaus Escola Des Artes Visuais (2016, PT). Keldsen’s work unfolds primarily as photographic works, artist books and spatial installations.
Her practice connects historical and spiritual aspects of landscapes through performative, photographic examinations that combine an experimental and conceptual approach to the medium, dealing critically with questions of position, storytelling and sustainability.
Internationally, she has had solo shows with Void, Athens (GR, 2016), Ampersand, Lisbon (PT, 2017) and The Caspar David Friedrich Institute, Greifswald (DE, 2018), where she also received the Caspar David Friedrich Prize. Nationally her work has been shown at institutions such as Kunsthal Charlottenborg (2020), Fotografisk Center (2021), and she currently has a solo-show at the Royal Danish Theatre.
Keldsen teaches at Fatamorgana, The Danish School of Art Photography and is part of the editorial team of Kulturo, a danish journal for literature, art and politics.
