The Old Town of la Guaira - Behind That Blue and Red
La Guaira is the closest coast to the city of Caracas (Venezuela), and one of the most ancient and important of the country whose historic center is in recovery, like so many others from Latin America. What has allowed me to reflect on memory, the present, the identity, ruin, fragmented stories, political uses of historical sites, history and the past itself; the interference of the State, the great lack of drinking water, the pain and footprint of the tragedies and flooding of rivers, and on the other hand, the bluest skies, the salsa playing and the smiles of a thriving town, in which all the streets lead to the sea.
Freisy González Portales is a photographer, anthropologist and musician.
With her photographic projects, she has participated in talks and exhibitions (collective and individual) in Venezuela, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Ecuador, México and the United States. At the same time, her work has been published in media such as Photographic Museum of Humanity (Ph. Museum); and selected in contests such as the Festival de Cine-Arte en la Frontera (San Cristóbal, Venezuela/Cúcuta, Colombia), Festival Extramuros (Lima, Peru), and Festival Internacional de Fotografía de Valparaíso (FIFV) (Chile).
Her interest as an artist is mainly focused on the exploration of the notions of identity and memory, migration and gender; weaving narratives based on experimentation and implementation of mixed media, such as analogue and digital photography, photographic archives, video, audio and the intervention of images through embroidery and collage.
Graduated from the Master of Contemporary Latin American Photography Maldefoco of the Centro de la Imagen de Lima (2017), and from the Semillero Migrante. Program of Visual Narratives on Migration (2022). She has also been trained in study programs in Venezuela, Peru, Chile, among others.
She was in charge and manager of activities at the library of the Centro de la Imagen de Lima, with experience in the management of photographic archives, as a teacher of photography and as researcher in projects, based on anthropology, history and iconography.
