Restless travelers: personal album or “national heritage”?
1971-1975 saw Romualdas Požerskis, still being a student at the polytechnics institute, spending his young days with a group of likeminded individuals interested in motorcycles, travelling, and ideas of freedom. The future photographer used to capture moments of those times – the photos were part of his personal album, along with his own experiences of the 1970s that were put down on paper in a diary. These photographs and texts were published in a 2017 book “Neramūs keliautojai” [“Restless travellers”].
The lecture will investigate ways how the mentioned “amateur” photos interrelate with the later, well-known works by the famous author. Are the photos in a personal album from the 1970s relevant in today’s social and political context?
Video clips of personal motorbike travels filmed by R. Požerskis in the 1970s will be played during the lecture.
