Crumbs of Light

2026 09 08 - 2026 10 03 / Vilnius Photography Gallery (Stiklių St. 4, Vilnius)

September 8 (Tuesday), at 5:30 p.m., a solo exhibition of photographs by Boris Taskov, ‘Crumbs of Light’, opens at the Vilnius Photography Gallery (Stiklių St. 4, entrance from Didžioji St. 19). You are warmly invited.

I believe that the beauty of photography lies in its simplicity. A single flash of light among a cluster of shadows can express a thought, convey a mood. It is a personal act of gathering the world piece by piece, only to reassemble it according to your own perception. You are the first to see what remains invisible to others – as if looking through a window in which, instead of glass, there were shattered mirrors: in every image you see countless reflections of yourself…

Formally, one could say that Boris Taskov represents the classical school of photography, as he works with an analogue camera and prints his photographs on traditional silver gelatin paper. Yet, statistically speaking, B. Taskov’s work emerges in a distinctive stylistic ‘in-between’, as it cannot be confined either to the frameworks of humanist, psychological photography or to the role of an attentive observer of street photography. Rather, his works suggest an observation of insignificant shifts of light and shadow as a state of solitude and of a figure distanced from the main action. In a way, Taskov could be called a contemporary Algimantas Kunčius, in whose work the essential elements of photography – light and the zone of sharpness – become the main protagonists of the photographs.

Five years ago, the Bulgarian-born photographer, who had lived and worked in Lithuania, moved to Sicily. Here, solitude and attention to the slow passage of time, a particular worldview, and a form of light unique to the region have become increasingly pronounced in his artistic approach.

Boris Taskov’s solo exhibition is another initiative by the Lithuanian Photographers Association to showcase Lithuanian photographers based abroad to audiences in Lithuania.

Opening hours of the Vilnius Photography Gallery: Tuesday–Friday 12:00–18:00, Saturday 12:00–16:00.

The activities of the Lithuanian Photographers Association are funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture and Vilnius City Municipality.
