D3ferred Dream (Atid4ta svajonė)

2024 12 18 - 2025 01 25 / Vilnius Photography Gallery (Stiklių str. 4 / Didžioji str. 19, Vilnius)

On December 18 (Wednesday) at 5:30 PM, the Vilnius Photography Gallery (Stiklių St. 4, entrance from Didžioji St.) will open the solo exhibition D3ferred Dream by Vismantė Ruzgaitė.

Vismantė Ruzgaitė is a cinematographer and photographer who graduated in cinematography from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. While most often called to the set as an experienced digital imaging technician, Ruzgaitė also undertakes creative projects. She contributed to the atmosphere and visual concept of Summer Survivors, directed by National Prize laureate Marija Kavtaradzė, and designed the main poster for Laurynas Bareiša's film Drowning Dry. In addition, she has acted in Vytautas Katkus's films Community Gardens and Cherries, the latter of which was included in the Cannes Film Festival competition program.

She observes how you breathe. How you inhale and exhale.

She observes how tirelessly you search for meaning: in a withered Christmas tree, a plastic-wrapped Jesus, an unexplained flash of light, as you gaze at the child you’ve slowly started to resemble, playing cowboys in the courtyard of an apartment block. She repeats your movements until they become part of her body.

She observes how you search for new life, though birth brings pain. How you fear death and yet live through it anew every single day.

She watches your golden rings, your new nose, your reinforced heels. She notices how you hope no one will see the snag in your stockings.

How you rage, how you cannot fall asleep, how you’re afraid.

She sees how you put it all off—for another day, another chance, another year, another version of yourself.

She smiles at how, every morning, you think: today, something will really be different.

She studies how, cautiously and from afar, you study her: a few minutes before falling asleep, while drinking coffee, as a child screams, watching a film, stuck in traffic. She sees how carefully you look at her.
