Skirmantas Valiulis, Stanislovas Žvirgždas. SEVEN DECADES OF ORGANIZED WORK
On January 15, 2003, the Union of Lithuanian Art Photographers celebrated its 70th anniversary. The article delineates the very beginning of organized activities (exhibitions, publications), carried by the Lithuanian Union of Photo Amateurs, founded in 1933, and later continued by the Union of Lithuanian Art Photographers. It also contains a survey of photo books, almanacs, catalogues, and exhibitions held during the postwar period that helped to reanimate organized activities of Lithuanian photographers and to establish the Lithuanian Society of Photo Art and, later, the Union of Lithuanian Art Photographers. The article is illustrated with reproductions of prewar and postwar exhibition catalogues, magazines, and book covers (p 4–6 ).
Povilas Sigitas Krivickas. PAPARAZZI AND MORAL VALUES
The author explores the issues of paparazzi and moral standards so relevant to modern times (p 7– 9).
Agnė Narušytė. A DIALOGUE BETWEEN TWO ‘CONSTRUCTORS’
In March the Prospektas gallery held an exhibition of Raul Hausman and Laszlo Moholy-Nagy. Art critic Agnė Narušytė discusses the characteristic features of their oeuvre, their new approach, and their creative dialogue (p 10–13).
Barbara Catoir. THINGS EXIST BECAUSE WE SEE THEM
The article is dedicated to the work of Barbara Klemm, a photo correspondent at the Frankfurter Algemeiner Zeitung (Germany), whose exhibition was held in April at the Prospektas gallery. The article is illustrated with photos made by the author in Lithuania and shots form exhibition opening (p 14–18).
Liucija Armonaitė. REALITY: SEARCHES AND SENSATIONS
The Vilnius photo gallery held an exhibition of Aleksandr Gliadelov (Ukraine) Unwanted. His photos capture the stark reality of homeless children and teenagers (p 19–21).
Rima Povilionytė. THE POWER OF IMAGE
A photo exhibition Things Lost and Founded by Alvydas Lukys was held at the Vilnius photo gallery in May. ‘Every moment has its end. But it is not about sadness. Our consciousness like our photos captures the most precious moments. But it is not about joy. Just the transformation of time needs to have a backbone. That’s how photo things come into existence’, – claims A.Lukys (p 22–23).
The GALLERY presents photos by a well–known photo artist Vitas Luckus from his series Relatives (1958 –1987). The author would have held his 60th anniversary on May 29, 2003
Zita Pikelytė. VINCAS FERINAUSKAS AND HIS PHOTOGRAPHY
Z. Pikelytė, senior museologist from the Panevėžys ethnographic museum, presents data on the life and photo works of Vincas Ferinauskas, a recently discovered prewar photographer from Miežiškiai. The article is illustrated with his photos (p 34–39).
Rimantas Daukša. TIME ACCORDING TO CARTIER
A survey of Henri Cartier-Bresson’s exhibition, that took place at the Modern Art Center in Vilnius. The article also presents some data about the author and his oeuvre (p 40–43).
A short survey of exhibitions that were held during the first half of the 2003 at the Prospektas, Vilnius and other galleries: Aleksandr Gliadelov’s Here and Now, Pedro Louis Raoto, Alfonsas Budvytis (both based on the archives of the Lithuanian Union of Photo Artists), Mindaugas Kavaliauskas’ The Kražiai Portrait, Ramūnas Danisevičius’ MySli, and Juozas Kazlauskas (1941–2002) (p44–46,65).
