Centre Culturel Francaise in Vilnius and Union of Lithuanian Art Photographers present the retrospective of Jacques-Henri Lartigue one of the most famous French photographers in XX century. The exhibition contains 85 black and white photographs.


Jacques-Henri Lartigue was born in 1894. Since 10 years old he began to take pictures and draw thus depicting his childish experience, family games, as well as the very beginning of motoring and aviation, social and sports events. He experiments with photography as curious amateur but using the technology special manner.

The photographer got acquainted with various artists, writers and actors: Sacha Guitry, Pablo Picasso or Jean Cocteau.  Jacques-Henri Lartigue was a passionate cinema lover, so he was documenting the shootings of the films by Abel Gance, Fran?ois Truffaut, Federico Fellini. The photographer cooperated with newspapers, his pictures were exhibited together with works of  Brassa?, Man Ray and Doisneau at Orsay gallery.  He became widely acknowledged photographer only after the show in Modern Art Musuem in New York in 1963 and after his pictures where published in Life magazine.  After three years was published the first book "Family album", later Richard Avedon published the album "Moments of my life" which made the name of Jacques-Henri Lartigues famous all over the world. In 1975 huge retrospective of photographer's works for the first time was exhibited at Decorative Arts Museum in Paris.
Up to his death (in 1986) he was taking pictures for fashion and life stile magazines.
