Vilnius Goethe-Institut in cooperation with Union of Lithuanian Art Photographers’ present the exhibition of German artist Girt Schwerdtfeger “Distance”.
The exhibition at Prospekto gallery runs from 20 of March to 13 of April 2008. Grit Schwerdtfeger always keeps a proper distance. When she approaches her motifs, then it is with the kind of reserve that is expressed from a safe distance.

In her most recent photo series, Schwerdtfeger concentrates upon places where people spend their leisure time: the beach, the spa, the park, and the observation platform. There is nothing exotic or spectacular about the public spaces in and of themselves, which would make it possible to identify their locations, because we are interested in familiarity of the circumstances. Removed from places and time, scenes take place beneath indeterminate white skies, in settings of muted colors containing people at leisure, who are characterized in particular by one thing: their relaxed attitude.
