Union of Lithuanian Art Photographers presents ten young and promising photographers in the exhibition "About myself".

The aim of the show is to reflect current ideas and creative tendencies of upcoming photographers generation in Lithuania. It reflects the part of overall tendencies that prevailed in Lithuanian photography for the last decade. The strong tradition of social reportage of 70-ies and 80-ies (A. Sutkus, A. Macijauskas) and contemplative photography that dominated up to 90-ies (A. Budvytis, A. Lukys, G. Trimakas) now is replaced by strong shift towards domestic and private documentary. The tendency is vividly expressed by such artists as R. Pralgauskas, P. Petraitis, V. Michelkevičius, T. Šarūnas and J. Deltuvaitė.  Other group of the photographers - M. Požerskytė, M. Bielskytė, P. Račiūnas and E. Voverytė - tends to explore and speak through the individual study of their own body.

The term "About myself" that was chosen as the core of the selection respects the wish of young artists to explore their private even intimate life. Through questioning the traditions and dogmas, national or professional identities, diminishing the boundaries between the private and social life the photographers recognize private environment as the most important object of the survey. Most of the works, represented at the show, are rooted in subjective documentary photography that allows the artists to enlighten one or another aspect of the surrounding fluctuating reality.

The exhibition was organized in cooperation with the Embassy of the Lithuanian Republic
to the Kingdom of Sweden.
